For those interested in taking on some of the biggest Texas fishing tournaments, make Surfside Marina your boating and saltwater fishing tournament home. Visit our “Events” page to see and register for 2025 Gulf Coast fishing tournaments.
“One more cast!” says your brother smiling along the port side. You smile back thinking everyone else on the boat is done for the day. There’s barely any bait left, the cooler is full, and the sunburn on your nose is already starting to tighten. Surely, it’s time to head back…but what’s one more cast?
With a splash, soon, together, you are reeling in what feels like the biggest red snapper you’ve ever seen. Holding and feeling the weight of it in your hands, you know this snapper isn’t just a fish, but a prized memory.
Anglers at Surfside Beach can refuel, service their engines, weigh their fish, and provide an RV home away from home at just one destination: Surfside Marina. The marina sponsors and participates in some of the most popular Texas saltwater fishing tournaments as the sportfishing home for anglers and boaters across the entire Gulf Coast.
So, when you’re attending one of the following Surfside Marina events this year, remember we’re your home for everything you need to reel in that last winning catch.
The 2025 CCA STAR Tournament

Participate in one of Texas’ largest annual Gulf Coast saltwater fishing tournaments where the thrum of Texans competing statewide along the Gulf Coasts is centered right here in Surfside Beach. The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Texas hosts the State of Texas Angler’s Rodeo (STAR) Tournament and awards scholarships and prizes amounting to more than $1.9 million to winners.
Surfside Marina serves as an official weigh and ticket station for the competition. So, starting May 24, 2025 at dawn through September 1 at dusk (Labor Day weekend), you can conveniently register and weigh your catch right here within the heart of the summer-long tournament action.
Last year, several members of the leaderboard caught their prize-winning fish at Surfside Beach.
Texas Champions King Mackerel Tournament and Texas Champions Bay Bash

Competition meets convenience for the biggest fishing weekend all summer. Within the same July 11th weekend, anglers across the Gulf Coast have the opportunity to compete simultaneously in both the annual Texas Champions King Mackerel Tournament and the second-ever Texas Champions Bay Bash. Registered anglers have the potential to win cash prizes while also giving back to the community. The Port O’Connor Toy Run and Surfside Marina raise funds for their yearly Christmas toy run through tournament entry fees and donations.
Those participating in the Texas Champions King Mackerel Tournament begin their weekend with the Captain’s Meeting on Friday, July 11, right here at Surfside Marina. Then on Saturday, July 12, the adrenaline kicks in as boaters take off into the Gulf to reel in the heaviest king mackerel and bring home first prize.
In 2024, by hosting the Texas Champions Fishing Tournaments, the Freeport to Port O’Connor Toy Run and Surfside Marina hosted the non-profit’s largest fundraiser of the year. With contributions from supporters, competitors, and visitors, the organization delivered an estimated $38,000 worth of Christmas toys to children in need up and down the coast.
Texas Gulf Coast Billfish Classic

This year marks the 3rd annual Texas Gulf Coast Billfish Classic. The best anglers in the area compete against each other throughout a three-day tournament at the Port Aransas Fisherman’s Wharf. From the opening kick-off party at The Sip Yard to live performances over the weekend, it’s all about fish and fun during the Texas Gulf Billfish Classic.
The largest catch to date in the competition is a 726.3-pound blue marlin. Will someone challenge the tournament record this year? Will it be your team?
Houston Big Game Fishing Club Tournaments

Surfside Marina is a corporate sponsor for the Houston Big Game Fishing Club. What this means for the passionate Gulf Coast angler is access to a wealth of summer-long tournament action. The HBGFC promotes, advocates, and educates Texas about the pursuit of deep-sea fishing and they’ve been doing it since 2004. So, it’s only natural for the home of Texas sportfishing to contribute and support these endeavors.
Throughout the summer, the non-profit organization creates multiple settings for anglers and boaters up and down the Gulf Coast to compete in big game tournaments. Such opportunities include the Lone Star Shootout located nearby in Port O’Connor from July 22 to 27, 2025, the Texas International Fishing Tournament (TIFT), Texas Legends Billfish Tournament, and the Texas Women Anglers Tournament (TWAT).
If there is one thing Surfside Marina understands, it’s how important community is to big game fishing. That’s why the marina sponsors organizations and tournaments like HBGFC, so anglers can find their own fishing home and community with a tournament that resonates with them.
Big Cash Snapper

There’s no excuse for not trying for the world’s largest cash prize for heaviest red snapper when Surfside Marina is a certified weigh station. From June 1 to August 31, registered anglers will spend the summer fishing for world-record-breaking snappers for a chance to win cash prizes. The tournament will award $50,000 to the heaviest red snapper weighed and a whopping $100,000 to the snapper that breaks the world record.
As you’re reeling in your prize-winning snapper, weigh your catch at your sportfishing home away from home: Surfside Marina.
